This sport belongs to the extreme category. However, kiteboarding is suitable for all types of people: businesspeople, entrepreneurs, managers, and thrill-seekers. In one vacation, you can learn to glide on a board using a kite.
"Kite" means a flying parachute, and "surfing" refers to riding waves. Equipment is continually evolving, with new designs and gear ensuring maximum protection and improved control. Kites are divided into two main types:
- Inflatable: It involves inflating two bladders and the front part. Launching requires the help of a person to hold the kite before lifting and receive it after landing. This design lifts easily, quickly, and does not sink. The downside is that bladders are prone to punctures; bushes and branches pose a danger.
- Parafoil: It lacks inflatable parts, so it can be launched without external help. Controlling a parafoil is easier, but it has a weak point: if it falls on the surface, it will fill with water in the cells and be hard to lift, so waterproof versions are being developed.
Various boards can be used for learning, including standard ones for wave surfing. A typical model is a symmetrical board with fins, which simplifies control. Feet are placed in pads (soft bindings). Later, more rigid bindings are used for professionals who perform various tricks.
The person acts as ballast, preventing the kite from flying away. A harness is worn around the waist, connected to the bar by a special hook. Depending on the bar's design, 3-5 lines run from it to the kite. These lines allow you to control the desired speed and, as they say, feel the wind in your ears. Undoubtedly, the view from the side leaves no one indifferent, demonstrating your courage and confidence.
First, we recommend researching schools, reading reviews, and checking prices. You will need an instructor who can explain all the nuances. Anyone can master the technique, but you need determination and a good instructor who will allow you to start practical lessons, which are divided into two main stages:
- On the shore – learning the theory of riding, adjustment techniques, preparation methods, and equipment.
- On the water – applying the knowledge in practice. Initially, you lie on the surface and catch the wind (body drag), then you stand on the board.
Once you have mastered the basics, you can move on to refining your individual skills. Remember about the equipment, be as attentive as possible, as any awkward movement can lead to a fall.
Kiteboarding requires special gear. Beginners should not buy professional gear with future use in mind, as it will be uncomfortable and spoil the first impression. Opt for simpler options:
- When selecting a board, consider height, weight, and skill level. Maneuverable boards are for professionals, while stable and wide ones are for beginners.
- The bar used to control the movement should match the size and type of kite.
- A helmet and life jacket are mandatory. They indicate the skill level of other kiters and protect against injuries. Do not neglect anti-slip shoes and a wetsuit.
Kiteboarding will give you a lot of positive emotions, lift your spirits, and allow you to be simultaneously under the power of air and water. It is captivating, mesmerizing, and lets you experience something new and unreal.
Kite schools are not always only for beginners. Athletes who have mastered surfing may come here to rent equipment or use a suitable spot:
When choosing training, consider the school's rating, reputation, reviews, and cost.
